You Must Keep the Beard!

Children covered in peach fuzz
Pubescent faces struggling through,
Reaching agile adulthood
Throat rocks carving new voices
Cracking with dynamite and gun powder
Sinking octaves and…
Other stuff.
You must keep the beard!
Razor longing to embrace the cream
Cradled around the stubbled surface
Tiny boy fists pounding the pillars
Of the structure called Dad
Craned necks and dribble from lip corners
Big, bushy, gray beard
One final stand
While the mind and body
Cease to grow
The hair challenges death
Foils fate’s functions
Will pump out inch after inch
Until the heart stops its beating.
