Experiencing You

Alongside the rhythms of our being
I believe there is born an experimental sound
as fingertips pluck strings
attentive to tension, to flexibility,
to the pitch of the touch
improvisations evolving
as we, in tune,
release tension;
vibrations roll down necks,
tense bodies, now pliable
and fusing newly discovered chords
traveling through curvatures—
frets—guidelines
to harmony; and then
electricity engages the awakening,
amplifying our song
as we reign in the pleasure of syncopation,
until our rhythm becomes
a breathy exhaustion
our bodies lie, warm and trusting; like hands
running down the smooth crafted mahogany, we slip away.
